Munnar is a small town located in Idukki district of Kerala. Situated at an altitude of 6,000 ft above sea level, the picturesque hill station is visited by a large number of tourists. » Pallivasal :
The place situated 8 kms away from Munnar, is the venue of the first Hydro Electric Project in Kerala. The place is known far and wide for its scenic beauty.

» Attukal :
Attukal is located at a distance of 9 kms from Munnar. Situated between Munnar and Pallivasal, Attukal boasts of beautiful waterfalls and rolling hills. Attukal is also an ideal place for long treks.

» Nyayamakad :
The place situated at a distance of 10 kms from Munar, falls between Munnar and Rajmala. Nyayamakad is famous for its pictursque waterfalls and is also as an ideal picnic spot and trekking point.

» Mattupetty :
Located at a distance of 13 kms from Munnar, Mattupetty is popular for its highly specialized dairy farm- the Indo-Swiss livestock project. Other attractions are the Mattupetty Lake and the dam located close to the farm.

» Eravikulam National Park :
Situated 17 kms away from Munnar, the park provides shelter to the endangered Nilgiri Tahr (kind of mountain goat known as ibex). The park covering an area of 97 sq.km is also home to other animals like Sambar, Barking Deer, Gaur, Giant Malabar Squirrel etc. Tourists are not allowed to enter the park during the breeding season, usually from Mid-February to mid-March.

» Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary :
Spreading over an area of 777 sq. km., it is one of the most exciting wildlife reserves in India. The sanctuary became a Tiger Reserve in the year 1978 and attracts wildlife enthusiasts for its diverse wildlife and scenic beauty. Though it is a tiger reserve, the sanctuary is known for its herds of Indian elephants. It also offers boating facilities for its visitors on the picturesque Periyar Lake.

» Kumily :
Situated near the sanctuary, the plantation town Kumily is one of the major spice trading centres of the state.

» Murikkady :
This plantation town is located at a distance of 5 km from Thekkady and known for its cardamom, pepper and coffee plantations.

» Mangla Devi Temple :
The ancient temple is located at a distance of 15km from the hill station Thekkady and is an excellent example of traditional Kerala style of architecture. The temple also popular for its Chithra Pournima festival held annually.

» Vandanmedu :

If you are on a sightseeing tour to Ooty , you might want to visit the Government Botanical gardens, which were laid out in 1847.

The garden is very popular with nature lovers and those who long to walk among greenery and see rare ferns and shrubs up close.

The picturesque gardens that are maintained by the Horticulture department of the state, cover an area of about 22 hectares. The Gardens have well over 650 species of plants and trees, including a fossil of a tree, which is believed to be more than 20 million years old.
